Hoi An International Lantern Festival 2026: 3–6 December

Year-end calendar tips for Central Vietnam

Festival Sourced summary · not a full press reprint
Note: Festival dates and venues can change. Re-check Da Nang / Hoi An tourism notices or your hotel before you travel, and keep a rain-season backup plan.

In late October 2026, Da Nang’s tourism promotion centre and local media outlined a run of year-end cultural events. The highlight for many Hong Kong independent travellers is the Hoi An International Lantern Festival, themed “Hoi An – Colors of Heritage”, on 3–6 December, around Hoai River Square, the An Hoi Sculpture Garden, the riverside and Ancient Town streets. If you are planning a November–December Central Vietnam hop, keep one or two evenings for Old Town lanterns and use daytime for beaches, countryside or My Son.

How to enjoy the lantern nights

  • Core experience: evening lanterns, riverside walks and square events; crowds peak from dusk — eat early, then enter the core lanes.
  • Hotels: Old Town and riverside rooms fill fast around the festival; book free-cancellation stays early, or base in Da Nang (My Khe / centre) and Grab across in the evening (often 30–45 minutes).
  • Daytime: museums, craft villages, An Hoi; leave a day for My Son or Da Nang sights so the trip is not only night crowds.
  • Weather: late-year showers still happen — light layer and waterproofs; swap boat or outdoor slots indoors if rain is heavy.

Practical tips for Hong Kong travellers

  • Visa: HKSAR passports generally need an e-Visa in advance — see our e-Visa guide and use only the official portals.
  • Flights: Hong Kong–Da Nang (DAD) is the simplest Central gateway; more international and charter capacity is talked about for Q4 — re-check airline schedules. Sun PhuQuoc Airways earlier flagged a possible Hong Kong–Da Nang route by year-end; see SPA Hanoi–Hong Kong launch.
  • Getting around: walk Old Town; use Grab between cities. Watch bikes on crowded lantern nights.
  • Itinerary skeleton: use Hoi An 3-day and Da Nang independent travel, and reserve one or two evenings of 3–6 Dec for lanterns.
