Overview
Hue was the Nguyen Dynasty capital. The Perfume River runs through town; the citadel, tombs and garden houses form a UNESCO World Heritage ensemble. Compared with Da Nang and Hoi An’s beach energy, Hue is history and slow travel: Forbidden City and Meridian Gate by day, a river boat at dusk, Thien Mu Pagoda’s bells. Central cuisine — spicy and imperial — makes Hue a cultural must on a Vietnam traverse.
